Emissions trading system for fossil fuels

Ordinance amending the Ordinance (2020:1180) on certain greenhouse gas emissions

The provision requires fuel companies that make fuel products available for combustion in specificallydesignated sectors to surrender allowances equal to the amount of carbon dioxide released from thecombustion of the fuel products. The operator, i.e. the operator running the fuel business, shall also monitorand report the emissions from the fuel products that the operator has made available for consumption in thedesignated sectors.

Fuel business operators are required to monitor and report carbon dioxide emissions from the fuel productsthat they have made available for consumption in the sectors listed in Annex 2 to the Ordinance on certaingreenhouse gas emissions (Chapter 3a, Section 12). Operators are also required to surrender allowancesequal to the carbon dioxide emissions released from the combustion of the fuel products that the operator hasmade available for consumption (Chapter 3a, Section 15).
