Meat used as an ingredient in food in restaurants and other mass catering establishments

The Swedish Food Agency’s regulations (LIVSFS 2024:xx) amending the National Food Agency’sRegulations (LIVSFS 2014:4) on food information

The rules require the indication of the country of origin to be provided for beef, swine, sheep, goat andpoultry meat that has been used as an ingredient in food in restaurants and other mass cateringestablishments, when the food is offered to consumers at the place where the activity is carried out, withoutbeing prepacked.

This requirement applies to the use of beef as referred to in Article 12(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1760/2000 ofthe European Parliament and of the Council establishing a system for the identification and registration ofbovine animals and regarding the labelling of beef and beef products and repealing Council Regulation (EC)No 820/97, as well as when using meat of swine, sheep, goats and poultry listed in Annex XI to Regulation(EU) No 1169/2011.
This information shall be indicated by the expression: ‘country of origin: (name of Member State or thirdcountry)’, or by equivalent terms. Where this is not possible, the information shall instead be indicated by theexpression ‘country of origin:’ followed by ‘several Member States’, ‘several third countries’ or ‘several MemberStates and third countries’, as appropriate, or by equivalent terms.
