The notified Resolution updates the definition of contaminant ("any undesirable substance not intentionally added to food and that is present as a result of primary production, industrialization, processing, preparation, treatment, packaging, transport or holding of such food or as a result of environmental pollution") and makes it independent of the regulations within MERCOSUR governing food additives and technology adjuvants.
